Mizar Weekly | The Recycling Value of Single-Core Cables

Single-core cables consist of a single solid copper conductor, insulated with a non-conductive material such as PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or rubber. This simple yet efficient design allows for optimal electrical conductivity and durability.

These cables are widely used across residential, commercial, and industrial buildings for wiring systems, as well as in electronic devices and automotive wiring applications. Their versatility and prevalence make them a common and valuable material in electrical waste streams.

From a recycling perspective, single-core cables are ideal feedstock for a granulator. The solid copper conductor can be efficiently separated from its insulation, providing a high copper yield. Compared to multi-stranded cables (often called “triple” or multi-core), which are more difficult and time-consuming to strip manually, single-core cables offer recyclers a faster and more profitable processing option.

High-quality granulation systems can process large quantities of single-core cables, ensuring minimal material loss and consistent copper purity. This translates into a higher return on investment, reduced waste, and a more sustainable use of resources.
